Eleventh Hour Rides in the 16th Annual L.A.T.E. Ride
Saturday July 10 through Sunday July 11, 2004

We were six of 10,000 bicyclists on Saturday night/Sunday morning July 11, beginning at 1:30 a.m., for the 16th annual L.A.T.E. Ride presented by Friends of the Parks. We went for a 28-mile ride through Chicago's neighborhoods and along the lakefront. We cycled past skyscrapers, waved to and high-fived onlookers, and watched the sun rise over Lake Michigan. We also got to enjoy tons of snacks at two rest stops and had breakfast back at Buckingham Fountain.

The L.A.T.E. Ride is Chicago's biggest charity bicycle ride. Proceeds from The L.A.T.E. Ride 2004 benefit Friends of the Parks, a 29-year-old not-for-profit parks advocacy group whose mission is to preserve, protect and improve Chicago's parks and lakefront. Since 1975, Friends of the Parks has served as the city's strongest independent advocate for improved parks and park programs, for the creation of new parks, and for better management of Chicago's recreational resources. Friends of the Parks hosts an annual Earth Day citywide parks clean-up, an Adopt-a-Park program, community service days, a neighborhood greening initiative, and park tours.
